Here’s to 2016!

Like so many of my friends, I love the New Year! It’s a fresh start, new beginnings, and taking down all the Christmas sh$! that’s been up for over a month! Whew! But seriously, I am really excited about this New Year and want to make a toast…here’s to 2016!!!!

Happy new year

I’m not a huge fan of resolutions, but I would really love to see a few things cross my path in 2016 such as…

Attend a Beauty Show Convention

I’ve been a licensed nail tech now for over 6 years at least and I’ve never been to an official Beauty Show i.e. ISSE, Cosmoprof, etc. I would really, really, really love to see this happen in my life. I want to make it to a show only to meet some of the amazing talent I follow and look up to like Gel Essentialz and Greg Salo. I really do feel like attending a convention is important for a career in the beauty industry and I live 90 minutes from Las Vegas so I really don’t have an very good excuse not to right?!?

Build my brand and business

A lot of people don’t know this about me, but I just finished my degree in Marketing Management through Western Governor’s University. LITERALLY I JUST FINISHED IT THIS WEEK. So in honor of holding a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, I would really, really, really love to build my business and brand to the best of my ability. There are a lot of ways to do this, but basically I plan on working my A$$ off this year!

Learn new skills on a daily basis

I think taking a couple years off from the nail industry taught me a lot. The most important thing I think I’ve learned is how important it is to keep learning and growing and trying new things. I think this applies to all aspects of life obviously but the beauty industry is constantly changing and growing and I’d like to keep up on all the new trends. Here are a few tips I recommend in order to keep learning and growing in the beauty industry:

Spend 10-15 minutes a day watching instructional videos on YouTube and Industry Websites

Ask your co-workers about their techniques

Ask a sales rep for your favorite brand about application

Attend training classes as often as you can

The last one, attend classes, is hard for me because I feel like I can’t afford to take the time off work, but I would really like to attend at least one course this year.

A few things I would love to see happen in my personal life are to travel with my family as much as possible. I’d love to go to Sonoma for our anniversary, my sisters and I are going beach camping in San Clemente in July, and I’d love to go back to Park City this summer. My friend Linda bought a dreamy farm right outside of San Luis Obispo and has invited us out to visit so I’d really love to do that too. Here’s an article I wrote about our last visit to California’s Central Coast.

Our visit to the Central Coast

I really want to take my boys to little trips on my days off around Southern Utah too. There are so many awesome things to do here—we loved going out to Zion last summer and walking the River Trail and playing in the river! Can you tell I’m pretty excited for summer?

A few other personal “goals” I have are to compete in the Crossfit Open in February, finish painting our house, and have a yard sale to get rid of all our accumulated clutter. We’ve never stayed in a house longer than 2-3 years which didn’t allow for very much collecting to happen. We’ve been in this house now for 4-5 years and the clutter is starting to pile up. I really despise holding a yard sale so I need to start organizing now in order to be ready by Spring, which could be in another month due to our short winter season.

What are your goals and thoughts about the New Year?? Do you always set resolutuions? What would you like to see happen in your life? Comment below..I’d love to hear your ideas!

Thanks for reading!
