This is my cute Grandma Irene. She has been on this planet for 93 years now! I don’t get to spend a lot of time with her, partly because life is so busy for me and my little family and partly because she is a stubborn homebody who doesn’t like to make house calls. I don’t blame her, if I couldn’t move and think as quickly as everyone else around me I’m not too sure I would want to do a lot of socializing anymore either. As ornery as Grandma can be, I still absolutely love having her around. She has a great laugh and a sparkle in her eye and would do anything for any of her family members. I know there will come a day, much too soon I am sure, where she won’t be around anymore and I am going to look back and wish I would have spent more time with her.
All my life I remember Grandma wanting pretty nails. I remember she used to tell my mom constantly about a new nail product she would buy to try to help her nails look nice. She just wanted someone in church to compliment her nails….just once. Even though her husband Bruce could afford it, Grams never went to a salon to get her nails done. She is one of the most frugal people EVER. She grew up in tough times, living as a teenager through the Great Depression. Nothing was wasted in her days. And nobody certainly paid someone to do their nails for them.
Well my mom dropped Grandma off at my house today because she wanted to go to a movie with my brother and asked if I would drive Grandma home. I didn’t have anything else going on and it was an absolutely beautiful spring day today so I was more than happy to help.
Grandma came in with her little buddy/dog Roxy and hung out in my backyard for about an hour eating pecans off the ground, hopefully enjoying herself. She was ready to leave but I told her I was going to do her nails first. She always argues with me when I offer to do her nails and I always make her get them done anyway because she is always so happy once they are done. She told me the whole time I was doing them there was nothing I could do to make her nails look better. I always disagree and tell her they look great and it’s hard to have nice nails when you work with your hands in the dirt and house so much like she does. I just did a quick buff and polish and threw some Essie Shop Till I drop and a soft gold glitter top coat. They looked really pretty when we were done and she couldn’t quit staring at them and saying how much better they looked. I got her in the car right after and drove her home so she could relax and enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
I am so happy I can do something little like this for my grandma that makes her so happy. Anyone that makes it to 93 years old deserves to be as happy as this world will possibly allow. I love you Grandma!!!! 🙂
Thanks for reading and hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful spring weather!
