The Sense of Smell

The Amazing Sense of Smell

In my past life, I was a store manager at Bath and Body Works. It was probably the longest year of my life and one of the most difficult jobs I’ve ever done but I learned so much and don’t regret doing it. All in all it was a good experience and it paid the bills during the months after my husband and I left our restaurant business at The Fairway Grill. You can read that whole story HERE.

One thing I learned at Bath and Body Works that I’ll never forget is how powerful the sense of smell is. The Limited Company, who owns Bath and Body Works as well as Victoria’s Secret, published tons of literature to educate their employees and they always emphasized how important the sense of smell is.

I learned that people love shopping at Bath and Body Works because smelling pretty, beautiful scents is the best way to boost your emotions and make you happy.

When I was working at the salon, I would always buy a really nice smelling lotion and cuticle oil to apply to my clients after their service and EVERY SINGLE time they would say how much they loved the smells! Some of my favorites were Hempz Citrus Bliss, CND Scentsations, and OPI Manicure products.

I always put a few drops of lemon and orange essential oils in my dishwater when I am cleaning my kitchen because citrus scents are especially powerful and trigger a “happy” switch in our brains. Almost any of the essential oils I have listed in my Aromatherapy Section of my Shop will lift your mood almost immediately. Here’s a heartbreaking but touching story I read on Facebook about a mother who was able to heal due to essential oils from a horrible loss.

New York Times Article on the Sense of Smell

What brought me to write about pretty smelly things is this morning when I was doing the laundry I pulled my favorite Old Navy maternity dress out of the basket I wore four days ago. I went to Dillards that day to buy my Mother In Law a gift card and stopped by the fragrance section…I think possibly because I forgot to put deodorant on that day and I didn’t want to stink. :))) I found the Issey Miyake display and I remembered how much my big sister Mandy loved these perfumes so I tried the prettiest bottle–the pink one. And oh my goodness…I think I found the most beautiful fragrance I could ever imagine! I am not ashamed to admit I actually am wearing the same dress again today…I promise it’s not dirty…and I can smell this amazing fragrance perfectly! It’s called Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Florale Eau de Toilette Spray and I love it so much I decided to add it to my Shop I also added this to my shop so I can then add it to my Wish List Pinterest Board so my husband knows what to get me for Mother’s Day or my birthday. :)))

What are some of your favorite smells? Next time you are feeling down and not the happiest you’ve ever felt, find something wonderful to smell. I promise it will help lift your mood almost instantly.

Thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful weekend. XOXO. 🙂
